Central Oregon’s high desert has become a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts of all ventures. It’s not uncommon for folks here to spend the morning skiing the slopes of Mt. Bachelor and their afternoon hitting the links, mountain biking along the Deschutes River or throwing a Frisbee in Bend’s beautiful Drake Park.Widgi Creek is the epitome of everything that Central Oregon and Bend has to offer. Situated in the middle of the Deschutes National Forest, Widgi Creek brings nature to you. On any given day at Widgi Creek you’ll spot elk, deer, coyotes, bald eagles, rare owls and more along the fairway. You can also venture to the black tee box on the 15th Hole and look down a steep canyon to the rapids of the Deschutes River as it’s dissected by a lava island below.
The climate in Central Oregon is close to ideal with dry, mild summers and crisp, clear winters. The Golf season generally runs from the end of March to the middle of November, with average summertime high temperatures in the 70s to low 80s. And don’t waste space packing rain gear in your golf bag. Bend historically receives less than two inches of rain in June, July and August combined.
After golf, it’s just a short drive into the heart of Bend where you’ll find a thriving, diverse city of more than 80,000 people. Bend has all the amenities of a big city, but has retained the feel of the old logging community it once was. Downtown Bend is a favorite gathering place for visitors and locals alike who enjoy fine dining, upscale shops and interesting galleries. Bend’s Old Mill District, which sits on the banks of the Deschutes River also offers a variety of shopping and eating options, as well as a 16-screen movie theatre and children’s museum. It’s quickly becoming one of Bend’s most popular destinations for visitors.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, numerous mountain biking trails run through the forest adjacent to Widgi Creek. In addition, the Mt. Bachelor ski and recreation area is only 12 miles up the road from the golf course. And the Meadow Camp picnic and hiking area along the Deschutes River is just a stones throw from Widgi Creek’s back nine.
